just saw Casino Royale with mum. yes, it's still playing at the cinemas and we must be one of the last few pple to see it. can't remember when we last went to the movies together.

the movie was pretty good. i'm a Bond movie fan and wasn't disappointed this time. this one was certainly different from all the previously ones. this Bond used his muscles more often than his brain, or the gadgets (and there was less around this time). there was more violence than usual. He also trusted his heart more than his usual instinct this time. and for the first time i developed sympathy for his character. since this is supposed to be the first story of the Bond series, no wonder after what happened with the girl in this movie, he became a heart-breaker in all the following movies, rather than the broken-hearted.

This Bond looked more like a Bond than Roger Moore. The blond hair (and even the blond eye-lashes!) were acceptable, however the blue eyes were just not right, i thought. but then everyone has their own idea what Bond should look like.

i liked the bit where, in a moment of major anxiety, a waiter asks if he wants his vodka martini shaken or stirred. 'Do I look as if I give a damn?' he snaps backs. Also, the scene where Bond emerges from the water, like Ursula Andress and Halle Berry did, was rather funny.

i also spotted Sir Richard Branson in the movie, appearing in a cameo role. he was going thru the other metal detector at the airport. it was no more than a second. and i thought my eyes were playing tricks again. (you know how some faces become so familiar that you see them on strangers when you're just casually glancing around??) anyway, i thought i'd come home and do a google search on it, and lo and behold he was in it.

so that was another movie, i really have a lot of reading to make up for it now...
but i can't wait for the next Indiana Jones movie. shall be interesting to see what the 64 year-old Harrison Ford is still able to do.
