current patient load: 28 Arhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am still coping, but it's the patients that suffer most. eg some had to fast for surgery that depended on the results of some investigations but, because of my work load (and the time it takes to process the tests), i just can't chase up the results ASAP or review their NBM (nil by mouth) status early enough. so often, some of them have to starve for almost a whole day, then discover that they don't need surgery.
This morning, my reg was shocked when he discovered that i finished at 9pm last night. told me to call him at 3pm today so that he could come and help me with a few things. But really, i don't expect regs to do discharge summaries or call up GPs, let alone surgical regs.
Reg E: "How are you going, 'zhinger'"?"
Zhinger: "um, alright. I managed to have a proper lunch, today!"
Reg E: "Did you stop by the bathroom though?"
Zhinger: "um...i forgot to do that..."
such an understanding reg =)
but then my other reg (H) works me too hard. wants me to beg radiology for after-hours X-rays that really aren't that "urgent" and expects me to chase films that Reg E would be happy to see on the next day. But i have the feeling that if i was one of them, i'd probably turn out to be Reg H.
