over-time
just got my timetable for this rotation. i've got 4 days where i have to do a 24-hour shift. and then, there're also a few days from my usual starting time (around 7:15am) to 11pm. plus a few weekends.the 24hr shifts will be a nightmare at the beginning, according to ppl've done it. I don't know if i will get any rest. It's basically usual shift + over night +(?) usual shift the next day. Doesn't that make 34hrs? I don't know. But it's the over night that's the most scary part, cos there's so few staff around. Any time of the day, IV fluids can run out, cannulars come out and patients can get chest pain. But it will be challenging and things will only get easier with time.
