The importance of free lunches

today, i was so free that i even had the time to go to theatre. As the registras began to close up the wound, i started to plan in my head a quick dash downstairs to catch the International Cuisine (free lunch) before coming back for the next case. By my day-dreaming was shattered when the registra told me that the consultant wanted to do a ward round between the 2 cases. "Dorhhh!!" i thought and my body sagged (the lead coat i was wearing to deflect the x-ray beams suddenly seemed 10x heavier) and my face must've shown an expression of utter disappointment. Then i realised that the consultant was watching...

later on, he asked me why i was so shattered when told the news about the ward round (i guess, esp since he's commented more than once that i am a model intern). So i told him the truth. And he was very nice about it. He even told me that next week there was going to be another free lunch! and that even him (the consultant!!!) would try to make that one too. but doubts his luck of finding any food left cos in the past by the time he got there the food'd always been devoged by medical student!

you see why i am so sad to leave orthopaedics now??

a nice ending to the story: i used the time i was given to change back from theatre scrub to my own clothes to make a mad dash downstairs ~ yummy Malayian garlic prawns...arh.umm....
